The design is sublimated on meaning the design is printed with a special ink and uses a heat transfer process to apply it. This process makes it permanent.

Cup Care instructions:

• Hand wash with warm water and soap
• Do NOT microwave
• Do NOT place in dishwasher

About the cups- these are cold/hot cups that keep beverages cold for up to 12+ hours and hot for up to 6+. The 12 oz Sippy Duo comes with the Sippy handle lid and a Clear screw-on lid.
